We are pleased to welcome you to the Black Bear Inn and look forward to hosting you. We know you have a variety of lodging options to choose from, and we are honored that you have selected our Inn. This directory gives you a thorough insight about our property, room amenities, and services available. If you have additional questions or requests, please let us know.

  • Activities

    There are endless activities in the area year-round; please go to GoCalaveras.com for a complete listing and an event calendar, or ask Bruce or Wendi! Some examples: hiking, kayaking, wine-tasting, shopping, skiing, snowmobiling, caves, museums...

  • Air Conditioning/Heating

    There is an AC unit on the wall of your guest room. Also, please feel free to leave your bathroom window open for a natural breeze. The Inn is heated by radiant heat through the floors, and is preset for your comfort.

  • Amenities

    Your guest room amenities include a full-size hair dryer, make-up removers, wireless high-speed internet connection, TV with satellite, refrigerator, gas fireplace, wine glasses and wine opener, ice bucket, robes, hangers, Tempurpedic mattress-topper, organic shower products, power cube with USB ports, lighted make-up mirror, and an iPod docking station/alarm clock combo.

  • Arrival

    Check in time is 3:00 pm.

  • ATM

    There is an ATM at the El Dorado Savings Bank, just up the road on the left hand side of Oak Circle.

  • Breakfast

    A full, sit-down gourmet breakfast is included daily. Please ensure that you have selected your preferred time (9:00 am or 9:30 am). Your promptness is greatly appreciated to ensure a hot and delicious meal. We prepare each guests’ plate individually, in time for your seating. Special dietary requests can be accommodated with 24 hours notice.

  • Cancellation

    Please see our policy online at arnoldblackbearinn.com. Departures before the scheduled departure date will constitute a cancellation, and payments will not be refundable.

  • Cell Phone Coverage

    Verizon is the only reliable carrier in the area. If you need to use a phone to make a call, please let us know.

  • Credit Cards

    We accept Visa, Master Card, and Discover.

  • Coffee

    Fresh-brewed coffee is available daily at 7am at the coffee station.  Hot water is available 24/7 for tea and hot chocolate.  Please help yourself!

  • Departure

    In order to prepare for the day’s arriving guests, we ask that depart your room by 11:00 am. Please turn off fireplace and lights upon departing; return your key to the front desk. Late check-out requests must be prearranged and a fee will be assessed.

  • Fire

    The Inn is equipped with an efficient fire alarm system. If you hear the fire alarm, please leave your room immediately via the nearest available exit. please check if your door is hot or smoke is entering before you leave.

  • Fireplaces

    There is an on/off switch on the upper-right-hand corner. There is no temperature gauge; please do not touch the plumbing. They heat up quickly so please don’t leave them on while you are sleeping, or if you are not in the room. To conserve propane, pilot lights are turned off during the summer months.

  • Gift Certificates

    We offer gift certificates for specific room rates and lengths of stay, or any amount towards a visit. See Wendi for details.

  • Hot Tub

    There is a covered outdoor hot tub available for registered guests, located in the backyard. There are towels in the hot tub area. The temperature is set at 101 degrees. The hot tub is not available during event/wedding weekends. Please enjoy and help us keep it clean and enjoyable for all of our guests by following these rules:

    • SHOWER BEFORE USE
    • WEAR FOOTWEAR TO PREVENT DEBRIS
    • DO NOT USE GLASS - we have plastic wine glasses available, just ask!
    • CAREFULLY OPEN AND CLOSE THE HOT TUB
    • OBSERVE THE 10PM CURFEW - this is the county noise ordinance, and
    • helps us be good neighbors - NO EXCEPTIONS TO THIS CURFEW
  • Housekeeping

    Daily make-overs are provided; please hang the “Please Freshen Room” sign on the hook outside your door if you request this service. I will empty the trash, refill your water pitcher, make the bed, and replace towels left on the floor. If you do not want this service, please hang the “Do Not Disturb” sign on the hook outside your door.

  • Ice

    There is an ice machine in the dining room, and an ice bucket in your guest room.

  • Internet

    Wi-fi high speed internet is available in your guest room, throughout the Inn, and on the grounds.

  • Non Smoking Hotel

    This is a COMPLETELY NON SMOKING PROPERTY - smoking is not allowed in the guest rooms, on the guest patios, in the common areas, or anywhere on the grounds of the Inn. A $250 cleaning charge will be added to the bill of anyone found violating the smoking prohibition.

  • Lost Property

    The Inn is not responsible for personal items left on the property. If a guest requests the return of any personal items, he/she will be responsible for any packing and shipping charges.

  • Luggage Racks

    Two luggage racks are located in your guest room.

  • Parking

    Parking is onsite, located in the front of the Inn. You are welcome to park in the carport area, or any available space.

  • Picnic Lunch

    We can customize a picnic for you, to be enjoyed in our garden areas or while you are exploring the local attractions. 24-hour notice is required; the picnic will be customized to your tastes.

  • Privacy

    The Inn and grounds are open to registered guests only. Visitors or additional people in the room are not permitted without previous authorization by the proprietors. If additional persons are allowed, their behavior and activities are the responsibility of the guest.

  • Private Dining

    Custom dinners are available to our guests with at least one week’s notice.

  • Refrigerator

    Each guest room includes a refrigerator. Please do not adjust the temperature gauge in order to prevent freezing (this can cause glass to break).

  • Shower Products

    We have provided you with products from Essential Wholesale & Labs, who offer “responsibly sourced ingredients, small batch processed, uncommonly good skin, hair & body care.”

    All products are organic, vegan, sulfate-free, with no added Parabens or Phthalates:

    • Body Wash: Clear Peppermint & Tea Tree - gentle, foaming, clear body wash scented with peppermint essential oil.
    • Shampoo: Clear Citrus - light/crisp shampoo scented with Citrus Burst essential oil blend.
    • Conditioner: Citrus - infused with organic lavender and calming chamomile.
  • Transportation

  • TV

    Your guest room is equipped with satellite and Direct TV. Please see the Direct TV CHOICE channel guide for information.


    TO TURN ON: Press the ON button, on the top right of the remote; this will turn on the TV and the satellite box.

    TO TURN OFF: Press the OFF button, directly under the ON button.

    CHANNELS: Press the GUIDE button, on the left side; scroll up and down using arrows, or select a channel by pressing numbers on the keypad of the remote.

  • Water

    There is a pitcher of water in your in-room refrigerator. This will be filled during daily make-over service. You are also welcome to refill it, and/or your personal water bottles, at the water dispenser, located in the dining area. Our tap water is also fantastic!

  • Wine & Cheese

    Served daily between 3:00 pm and 5:00 pm, at the time that you choose. You can enjoy this on the back patio, your private patio, or the Gathering Room. You will choose from an ever-changing list of artisan cheeses and charcuterie items, which will be served with crackers and fruit. You are welcome to pick a different selection each afternoon. We pair this with a glass of local wine, your choice of red or white. We have non-alcoholic beverages available if you prefer; just ask us about today’s options.

  • Weddings & Events

    We host weddings and special event weekends (birthdays, anniversaries, Friendsgiving, family reunions, etc.). Please see Wendi for details.
